S123Barnes – Romping with the Poets Laureate Instructor: Linda Barnes, MS, CJT, CAPF The United States Library of Congress began the Poet Laureate program in 1985, and 24 poets have served since then. But prior to that, there was a position called Consultants in Poetry to the Library of Congress. We’ll take a quick tour through the decades and sample some of the most powerful poems of these influential people. And we’ll try our hand at writing some poems of our own in the style of these “greats.” Come enjoy some literary history with a hopscotch trip through America’s luminaries. From Robert Penn Warren and Stanley Kunitz to Joy Harjo and the current PL, Ada Límon, we’ll sample & celebrate this honorable position. 8 CEUs Available. Info & Registration |
